2007 BMC SLT01 team machine
Part Diary,
Part Technical Manual, Part Tips & Tricks

As usual I wasn't looking for another bike, but I saw a local ad for a BMC SLT01 team machine. I've always felt that these earlier models are one of the most iconic frame designs in contemporary bikes, that aluminum exoskeletal lug is just an amazing design. When I saw the bike, it was filthy and greasy with a random mix of SRAM and Shimano components. But I sensed that beneath the grime was a pretty clean bike underneath, which turned out the be true. So on September 22, 2025, I brought home my first BMC.
10/8/2025 - Since the components were a mix, I decided to lean towards Shimano instead of SRAM. I just happen to have a new Tiagra crankset and rear derailer in my garage, so that work out really well. I put on new LOOK pedals and Michelin tires, so that should be the last bit to complete this bike.
10/22/2023 - The bike is now complete, everything clean and dialed in. I ended up using the SRAM Red shifters, just to save money. I polished the brakes so its just raw aluminum with no logos. Took it out for an 18 mile ride and everything worked great and the gearing was good in the hills as well.
