2007 MAVIC

Part Diary,
Part Technical Manual, Part Tips & Tricks
You always see all those yellow cars and yellow bikes at all of the major bicycle races. I wondered what they did with those bicycles at the end of the season. So while I was at the 2008 Tour of California, I stopped by the Manufacture d'Articles Vélocipédiques Idoux et Chanel (MAVIC) tent and asked. Turns out there is a lottery at the end of each season and they are sold. Turns out that they had some 2007 bikes left over, so they offered to sell a 2007 model to me, instead of having to wait until the end of the year for the 2008 model. So on April 1, 2008, a big UPS box arrived from Haverhill, MA.
6/8/2010 - To be a more versatile bike on all kinds of conditions, I was able to find a new SRAM Rival Compact crankset, the silver ones in the same 172.5mm length so I don't have to change the seat height when I switch back. It was a pretty easy swap, just pulled off the original crankset, left the bottom bracket in place, bolted on the new crankset and dropped the front derailer down a few millimeters.
3/22/2015 - After seven years of ownership, I sold the Mavic. It's been a great fast bike with an interesting story.
Here are the specs:
Frame: 2007 Cannondale
CAAD9, 54cm. Serial Number: S005351. The Cannondale stickers are intact, but
painted over in Mavic Yellow, except for the head tube badge. The frame features
black MAVIC stickers on the top and seattube with a big 54, so they can easily
grab the right frame size during a race incident. The MAVIC stickers are actually
clearcoated, which is a nice touch.
Fork: 2007 Cannondale Slice Premium, full carbon with aluminum dropouts.
Natural carbon fiber with clearcoat finish.
Wheelset: MAVIC Ksyrium Elite.
Tires: Michelin Pro3 Race Service Course, 700 x 23C, black.
Cassette:
MAVIC M10 10spd,
True Temper steel cogs. 11-25T.
Crankset: SRAM Rival,
50x34, 172.5mm, 110 BCD.
Bottom Bracket: SRAM GXP Team BB. ISO threaded.
Front Derailer: SRAM Rival, braze-on, with 34.9mm clamp-on adapter.
Rear Derailer: SRAM Rival.
Lever/Shifters: SRAM Rival.
Headset: FSA,
1-1/8" Threadless.
Chain: MAVIC
10V, nickel plated, stainless steel links, quick link MAVIC closure.
Stem: FSA OS-115, 1-1/8", 6 degree rise, 110mm, 31.8mm diameter.
Forged and CNC-machined AL2014/T6 with carbon fiber faceplate. 6/4 Titanium
hardware.
Handlebar: FSA Energy. Quad butted, tapered and shot-peened AL7050/T6.
40.5cm wide, 14.0cm drop, 9.5cm reach.
Brakes: MAVIC
SSC, dual pivot. The design is unique in that it uses a leaf spring for actuation.
Pedal: LOOK KeO Classic, black.
The bike didn't come with pedals. Due to the various pedal systems used in races, these bikes
typically had platform pedals with straps in serivce.
Seatpost: FSA SL-K, SB25, 27.2mm x 350mm. Carbon fiber shaft with forged
alloy head.
Saddle: Selle
Italia SLR,
black. The bike didn't come with a saddle,
as MAVIC reused the saddles on their 2008 bikes.
